My Wacky Dog

Hi, my name is Allie and I have a wacky dog named Auggie.

Four days ago we got an electric fence, and in the booklet it said that we needed to train our dog for it. Anyway, yesterday I was outside with my dad trying to train him, and he ran right through the fence! Auggie got very excited and it took five minutes to calm him down. After that little break, we tried again and he jumped over it! It had given us a false sense of security.
This morning I woke up with Auggie sitting on my face. After I  pushed him off, he licked me all over my face. At breakfast time, he started rolling around looking for some attention and someone to scratch his belly. After breakfast we left for camp. When we got home I got my usual welcome, a slobbery kiss.

At 9:00 PM we took Auggie out to go to the bathroom.  He took twenty minutes to go! He was distracted by my neighbor who was sitting outside with her family. As I climbed into bed I was glad the day was over!

Yay! Today Auggie turns one. His very first birthday. We bought him a bone and his favorite treat, Greenies. Greenies are things that are green and are in the shape of a huge toothbrush. I don't really know what they are made of.

Tonight we are going to have hamburgers and my mom is going to make one especially for him. So this morning Mom told me to feed him a little less at dinner. I still don't know what my dad is going to get him.  I will find out later tonight. My mom bought adult food for Auggie because after the first year dogs are considered adults.

This morning when I came down the stairs there was stuffing all over the steps. Later we figured out it was from my sister's toy frog. This is the third time that Auggie has ripped up the frog. It only took about 3 minutes to pick it up. I still don't know how he got it because he slept downstairs last night.

Speaking of yesterday, he had a great time! Auggie wolfed down the burger in 2 seconds. Somehow he knows when things are for him so he kept begging for the bone that we got for him. Eventually we gave it to him. After dinner, my sister Christina and I helped make dessert.  It was slices of yellow cake with strawberries on the first layer and a lot of whipped cream on the top. Auggie's dessert was his special doggie ice cream with a candle in it. When everyone finished, we went into the TV room and watched TV, as Auggie munched on his bone at our feet.

Nothing exciting happened today. We were outside watching Auggie play and we turned around for one second and he stole the outdoor broom and started wrestling with it. I got a couple of pictures of him with it. If he doesn't have enough toys, he makes some for himself.  One day he stole my mom's plastic flower pot and turned it into a chew toy.  One time we left him home alone for an hour and when we came home the carpet my mom just bought was all ripped up.  He knows when he does something wrong because he goes in his cage but it's like he can't help himself.

After dinner my mom went to someone's house for a while so my sister and I were left home alone till my dad came home. After my mom left, we went upstairs and by accident we left the gate open in the kitchen, so we basicaly had given Auggie the run of the house. When my dad came home, we raced down the stairs and saw that Auggie had torn the arm off my bear. When my mom got home she told me that she could sew it back on.

Sometimes Auggie is the world's biggest pain.  He comes into your bed in the middle of the night and sits on you waiting for you to wake up and play with him. And sometimes he is a big sweetheart. He will sleep in your room and wake you up in the morning with a big kiss.

He is the fastest runner I have ever seen. When I throw the ball, he runs so fast that when he tries to stop he skids right past the ball. Everyone who sees my dog thinks he is a big goofball but he is very, very smart. In about 7 minutes he figured out how to get past the electric fence.

The one thing is that he has so much energy that we have to find a way to harness it. He is very friendly. Auggie will love you if you throw him a ball. We are still trying to get him to stop jumping on every person who walks through the door.

Even though Auggie is not the best trained dog he is a joy to be with!
