Webmaster: Connor O'Brien
In 1957, owner Walter O'Mally said no to having the Brooklyn Dodgers move to Flushing Meadows in Queens. He had no idea what would be there seven years later. Shea Stadium. This ballpark is now the home of the New York Mets. The Mets played in the Polo Grounds in 1962 and 1963, before starting at Shea in 1964. Over the years, they have won 2 of the 4 World Series contests in which they participated. They won in 1969 against the Orioles and in 1986 against the Red Sox. They lost in 1973 against the A's and in 2000 against the hated Yankees. In 2006 the Mets came close to the World Series, but Yadier Molina hit a home run in the 8th inning as the Cardinals took the lead for good in game 7 of the NLCS.
