The Giant Panda
The giant panda lives in bamboo forests in the mountains of China. There are fewer than 1000 in the world now. They are endangered because of poaching and the destruction of their habitats. Also, the giant panda doesn't reproduce very easily. Giant pandas mostly eat bamboo, but sometimes eat grass, roots, plants, and maybe meat.
Asian Tiger
In the nineteenth century there were more than 40,000 tigers in India. Today there are fewer than 4000. Tigers sharpen their claws on tree trunks and are known for leaving big gashes in the bark. A wild tiger eats almost 5000 pounds of fresh raw meat a year.
Asian Rhino
The Asian rhino can weigh 4000 pounds. It can also grow to be 12 feet long! Even though these rhinos are very big animals, they are complete vegetarians. They can live to be 47 years old in zoos, though in the wild they usually die earlier. Since only 2,000 of these animals are alive today, the Asian rhino is considered a highly endangered species.
